About This Spot

Stepping into قند راسك - Gnd Rask in the heart of Al Dhahir, Abu Dhabi, feels like entering a quiet pocket of tradition and warmth amid the city’s gentle buzz. The rhythm here moves at an easy, welcoming pace — where the air carries the inviting aroma of freshly brewed karak tea and the subtle, comforting scent of baked parathas. It’s a space designed for lingering moments, casual conversations, and small joys that come from simple, thoughtful hospitality.

The atmosphere at Gnd Rask is one of approachable familiarity. Whether you choose to sit indoors or by the parking area where the team flows with a quiet efficiency, the service echoes the care and connection of a favored neighborhood spot. It’s clear that the people here understand the delicate dance of managing a busy café while keeping warmth front and center.

Food here feels intrinsically tied to both culture and comfort, inviting you to savor familiar tastes with gentle nuances. Parathas emerge from the kitchen soft and layered, with fillings that strike a nostalgic yet inventive chord — all complemented beautifully by the signature karak, which many find both soothing and invigorating. And the sweets, especially the luqaimat served warm, reveal the rich heritage of Emirati cooking: each bite a perfect harmony of crispy and soft textures, drizzled with sauces that hint at stories passed down through generations.

Gnd Rask is more than a café—it’s a small haven where every sip and bite nudges you closer to the rhythms of everyday life in Abu Dhabi, where care is stitched into the fabric of the experience. It’s a place where the unfolding human moments — the smiles of the staff, the quiet attentiveness amid the steady flow of orders, and the shared pleasure in a simple, well-made cup or dish — create a sense of belonging that feels both genuine and rare.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a traditional restaurant in Hili that offers an authentic taste of Emirati culture, and I was beyond impressed. I tried their luqimat and karak, and both were absolutely delightful. Luqimat, a traditional Emirati sweet, was served warm and freshly made. These golden, bite-sized dumplings had a perfectly crisp exterior and a soft, fluffy interior. Drizzled with date syrup, they were the perfect balance of sweetness and texture. Each bite was a delightful explosion of flavors that transported me to a realm of culinary bliss. The portion size was generous, making it an ideal treat to share with friends or family. The karak tea, a spiced tea that is a staple in the UAE, was equally impressive. It was rich, aromatic, and brewed to perfection. The tea had a soothing blend of spices, including cardamom and saffron, which complemented the sweetness of the luqimat beautifully. Served piping hot, it was the perfect accompaniment to the sweets and provided a comforting, warming sensation that lingered long after the last sip. The restaurant itself exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with traditional décor that adds to the overall dining experience. The staff were friendly, attentive, and more than happy to share the story behind each dish, which added an extra layer of authenticity to the meal. Overall, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in traditional Emirati sweets and drinks. The combination of mouthwatering luqimat and flavorful karak, along with the inviting ambiance and excellent service, makes it a perfect spot for both locals and tourists alike. I highly recommend giving it a try—you won’t be disappointed!

I had an incredible experience at GND Rask! Their traditional bread is absolutely amazing, so fresh and full of flavor. The Arabic coffee completely stole my heart and mind—it was perfection in every sip. And the luqaimat? Simply delicious, so soft and perfectly sweet. Although there’s no dining area and only pickup is available, the quality and taste make it absolutely worth it. A big thank you to the team for their effort and dedication in providing such an authentic and delightful experience. Highly recommended!
